Shannon earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kennesaw State University and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Georgia. She has experience working with neurodivergent children and families, including children with Autism and ADHD, and has a passion for supporting neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ children, teens, and young adults as they navigate a world that may not always understand the way they think, feel, communicate, or experience themselves.
Shannon enjoys working with young people who may feel overwhelmed by school, friendships, expectations, or simply trying to find where they belong. She also works with children and adolescents experiencing depression or who seem disconnected from themselves and the people around them.
Another area of interest for Shannon is obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), particularly when anxiety becomes centered around germs, cleanliness, illness, or contamination. She supports young clients who may find themselves caught in repetitive worries, cleaning or washing behaviors, avoidance, reassurance-seeking, or rituals that begin interfering with school, home, friendships, and everyday life.
She provides space for young people to process transitions in relationships and friendships, identity development, and school changes while developing a stronger understanding of themselves and what they need.
Shannon especially enjoys supporting clients experiencing:
- Autism and ADHD
- Neurodivergence and the experience of feeling “different”
- LGBTQ+ identity, exploration, belonging, and relationships
- School, test, and performance anxiety
- Social anxiety and difficulty navigating friendships
- OCD, including contamination and cleanliness concerns
- Depression, withdrawal, and loss of interest
- Relationship changes and life transitions
- Emotional regulation and overwhelm
At the heart of Shannon’s work is creating a space where clients do not feel that they have to perform, mask, or become someone different in order to be accepted. Shannon uses an integrative approach and draws from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), tailoring therapy to each client’s developmental needs, goals, and way of experiencing the world.
Outside of the therapy room, Shannon enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing video games, watching movies, and playing with furry friends!
A Few Words From Shannon:
Hey! I’m Shannon. Thanks for considering working with me! Finding and reaching out to a therapist can be a difficult thing to do, but hopefully my colleagues and I can make that process as simple as possible.
Congratulations! If you are here, you have already completed the first step! That accomplishment is worth celebrating. I hope to offer a warm, accepting space where you feel safe to be yourself and process things openly in a judgment-free zone, meeting you with curiosity, compassion, and respect for your individual experiences. I will always celebrate the wins with you, no matter how small! Whether it is you, your family, or your child, I am excited to support you on your mental health journey!
